    Panel Discussion: Victims in the Public Eye

    At the 11th annual conference of DeGPT in Bielefeld, Germany, Dart Centre Europe presents a panel discussion on the respective responsibilites of journalists and therapists.

    Panelists include Claudia Fischer, Fee Rojas, Ulla Fröhling, Andreas Maercke, with Peter Liebermann and Petra Tabeling.

    Conference: Reporting Wars

    At the ABC Ultimo Centre in Sydney, Australia, leading journalists and government and legal experts will debate current issues in reporting from the front lines.

    Speakers at "Reporting Wars: Challenges and Responsibilities" will include Chris Cramer, global editor for multimedia at Reuters and president of the International News Safety Institute and Florian Westphal, spokesperson and head of media services for the International Committe of the Red Cross.

    The conference will last from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

    The conference is hosted by the ICRC, the ABC and the University of Technology Sydney. Seating is limited, so please RSVP by Wednesday, May 13.

    Film Screening: Breaking News, Breaking Down

    In Canberra, Australia, a screening of Ochberg Fellow Mike Walter's documentary on journalists covering traumatic stories.

    This short documentary, directed by former TV reporter and 2005 Ochberg Fellow Mike Walter, features interviews with a range of journalists and experts from the Dart network.

    The film grew out of a 2007 Dart Society project called Target: New Orleans that sent reporters to the Gulf Coast to lend a hand in post-Katrina reconstruction. The film interweaves this trip with reporters speaking candidly about the hardest stories they've covered and how, as Walter says, "breaking news can break you down."

    Film Screening and Panel: Breaking News Breaking Down

    In Melbourne, Australia, a screening of Ochberg Fellow Mike Walter's documentary on journalists covering traumatic stories, followed by a panel discussion.

    The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance in collaboration with Dart Centre Australasia and RMIT University present a free screening of "Breaking News Breaking Down." The film will be followed by a panel discussion on the media's role in community recovery following the bushfires, featuring:

    Mike Walter, film producer and journalist
    Brett McLeod, Network Nine senior journalist
    Dr. Rob Gordon, trauma psychologist
